Giving Fall An Edge

“Style is a way to say who you are without having to speak.” Well, ain’t that the truth.

I mentioned in another post from this week that lately I’ve been trying to do things differently when it comes to my style. I’m not sure why or how or even when this really happened, but I took a long, hard look at my closet and the pieces I had – and wanted something different.

Let me start by saying I’m not an edgy person. BUT I have been mixing edgier pieces into my wardrobe…and just different pieces from what I would normally wear. I didn’t even realize I was “switching” up my style. But even people at work noticed – which was probably the biggest realization. Two years ago, even one year ago, I would never have worn a leather jacket and over the knee boots. Like ever.

This is for two reasons: 1. I didn’t think I could pull “edgy” pieces off, and 2. I couldn’t find pieces I really liked.

But as I get older and more involved in blogging and the fashion industry in general, I realize there’s a lot more you can do with your wardrobe just by adding a few pieces that spice it up a bit.

Now here we (well, I) are (am). After having a leather jacket for three weeks, I’ve pretty much worn the crap out of it. I want to throw it over everything. And everything I buy I think to myself, “Oh I can definitely wear this with my leather jacket.” (It definitely goes back to that addictive personality we talked about last week.)

Next talking point: my dress.

This Thakoon x DesigNation dress is absolutely PERFECT. I discovered it when I was browsing the collection after buying this amazing vest (seen in this post here). I knew I wanted to wear it with my over the knee boots (shocker, I know), but it was a little too long, so I threw on my trusty J.Crew belt.

Normally I don’t reach for navy and black (unless one color is just an accent) pieces to wear together, but this was an exception. Because once again, I want to throw my leather jacket on over everything. And like most things I just randomly throw on, it kind of just works.

…ya feel me?
