A well stocked pantry and fridge leads to a happy heart. Am I right?
One of the best parts about going home is by far going to a place with a fully stocked fridge and pantry. I’m not sure why parents always have all the goods but they do and I’m here for it. I have a feeling it has to do with lack of storage space in my apartment but I feel like I have nothing in my fridge or in my pantry. When I go shopping I just get the essentials for the week because I can’t necessarily plan that far in advance and I don’t want food to go bad since I’m ultimately just shopping for one. I’m planning on doing an Elle’s Edit dedicated to my favorite Trader Joe’s items but I wanted to share my pantry staples that I have at ALL times.
Chick peas / black beans. I love to throw chick peas in a salad or just have it as a side dish since they are such a great source of protein. They are easy to put together, rinse, and either eat them raw or my new favorite thing is putting them in the oven and roasting them and making them crunchy. I also love to have black beans on hand for when I am making tacos or a taco salad. For some reason I always forget to pick them up when I buy the ingredients for tacos so that is why it is always good to have a couple canisters at home.
La Croix. I love sparkling water and my go to is La Croix probably because that is the only brand that I’ve tried and also it is everywhere. I pick up a case at Whole Foods since they have all the flavors and always make sure I have it in my fridge. I don’t drink that much soda so if I am feeling like something bubbly I always reach for this.
Condiments. We’re talking Ketchup, Hot Sauce (duh), Mustard, Salad Dressing, you name it. The essentials. You never know what you need them for!
Frozen Veggie Burgers. Frozen food is great because it is cheap and very easy to put together. Sometimes when I buy a salad I like to throw on a frozen veggie burger (I obvi heat it up) so it adds some protein and it is much cheaper than adding chicken and spending the $4 they usually charge for a tiny scoopful.
Soup. The trend here is easy. Soup is easy and is a perfect meal especially in the winter when it is cold. I love getting a can or a box of soup from Trader Joes and Whole Foods and keeping it in the pantry if I need to eat dinner and I have no idea what to make. Usually when that is the case I always go out and get food so this option is definitely much cheaper and 99% of the time it is worth it in the end.
What are your pantry staples?
