Elle’s Edit: Mother’s Day Edition

If you didn’t know already, Mother’s Day is this Sunday!

Dana wrote such a great post yesterday and it inspired me to dedicate this post to all the wonderful mom’s in the world. We wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for our mothers..it is as simple as that. My mom sure has taught me some incredible lessons over the years and on Sunday I want her to feel even more special and loved. Now, if you are a procrastinator like me, you may or may not have waited until now to get your mother something. (AHEM). But don’t worry, I got you covered and have put together a couple of things that I have given my mom over the years that she has loved. But before we get into all the gifts, I want to share a couple of life lessons that my mom has taught me.

Something that I know I will never have but my mom challenges me on this daily. She is the most patient person that I know. It is incredible. She is such a saint and goes with the flow on everything. She loves being in the moment and just spending time with loved ones, even if they (aka me) are bothering her.

Always be Happy

Whenever I have a tough day at work or are completely miserable, my mom always has my back. She is the teddy bear in the family and she always replies by saying do what makes you happy. She constantly asks me how I’m doing and is genuinely happy when I am happy. It is the cutest thing in the world. She has helped me realize that life is short and it is important to move on from something if it isn’t giving you complete joy.

Family Over Anything

Family is so important to me and my entire family. If you didn’t know, I’m an only child so my parents mean the absolute world to me. They are my everything. They always have my back and love me unconditionally. My mom is so close to her sister who is a couple years younger and they talk on the phone once a week for about 2 hours. Like what on earth can they talk about for that long? They have such a remarkable bond and even though they only see eachother once or twice a year, they still remain really close.

Make Sure Your Guests Are Well Fed

My mom is one heck of an entertainer. She is the Martha Stewart (minus the jail part..lol) of our family and her friends. She has the best dinner parties and thinks of everything. It is so important to her that her friends/family have a great time (and well fed) when she is hosting. I love when she comes to visit me because she always makes my dinner and packs my lunches for the week (crying).

Last Minute Gift Ideas

My mom unfortunately lives far away from NYC as they moved to Florida a couple of years ago so I won’t be able to get home this Mother’s Day. Fortunately, my mom was up here 2 weeks ago visiting so we were able to celebrate early. If you are in the same boat as me, you better be overnighting a nice handwritten note to your momma before Sunday. My mom LOVES handwritten notes over any gift. Even if you are going to see your mom, be sure to write a handwritten note. It means the world to them and I can promise you, they will store that card in the same drawer with the rest of your cards forever.  In terms of gifts, please oh please get your mother a beautiful flower arrangement. It doesn’t need to be fancy or from an expensive florist but Whole Foods has some great bouquets right now and their flowers last such a long time. Another idea is getting her a gift certificate to the spa for a massage and facial. I mean…who doesn’t love a good spa day? It is something that you can easily pick up from your local spa and it doesn’t require any shipping costs! One last idea is just taking her out to lunch on Sunday. My mom loves spending good ole’ quality time with me so why not treat her to a great lunch? Just please make sure you are not looking at your phone, heck don’t even bring it with you!

What are some lessons that your mom has taught you? What are your plans this Mother’s Day?
