Elle’s Edit: 5 Things To Spring Clean

I am beyond excited that it is finally spring and we can kiss winter goodbye.

This winter was LONG. I’m pretty certain that I say that every year but woof, it was a long one. Here in NYC we barely got any snow however it was just cold for months. The cold just never could go away and is still lurking in the weather forecast. Now that it is spring, I am excited to switch up my routine and do some much needed spring cleaning. Spring cleaning can mean a lot of different things to every person but to me it is a time to reset and evaluate what is going on in my life.

The closet is definitely a good place to start. I can admit that I have way too many clothes. I hold on to clothes like there is no tomorrow even though I haven’t worn a piece in months or even a year! I am trying this season to clean out my closet and get rid of the items that I haven’t worn. To motivate myself I am treating myself to new pieces that are either investments or trendier items. I’m at that point in my life financially where I can invest a little more in my clothing but don’t get me wrong I love a good deal and constantly find myself shopping when my favorite retailers have a sale going on.

One thing that I added to my spring cleaning list last year that I need to revisit is cleaning out my email inbox and finally unsubscribing from emails from brands and retailers. I get so many junk emails a day and it drives me nuts. It is so easy to press unsubscribe (usually takes around 3 steps) and your inbox will thank you later.

When it starts getting warmer out I definitely find myself getting busier and busier. What I want to make a conscious effort is to clean out my calendar. I have to accept that I don’t need to say yes to everything. It is really important to have “me” time in order to keep sane. We are constantly busy and need to realize when we need to say no.

This one may sound a little harsh but do you hold on to friendships longer than you should? As we get older we definitely start to reevaluate our friendships and realize which ones are going to last a lifetime. Are we friends with people just for the sake of being their friend and is it just out of habit? This is a good opportunity to reevaluate those relationships and see if those individuals are adding value in your life.

The most important part of spring cleaning is clearing your mind. The winter is rough and gets us feeling all types of emotions. Having a new season allows us to be free and open to new ways of thinking or living. Treat yourself a massage, get a haircut, get your nails done! Do something for yourself that you enjoy doing that will make you feel clear and ready to tackle a new season!

Do you spring clean?
