I’ve officially been at my job for 1 month!
In case you missed it, I recently started a new job! I left my job in menswear at the end of October, and began a new journey in womenswear shortly after. To say I’m really excited to be working for an extremely successful company that I absolutely adore is an understatement. It feels amazing to finally be able to be personally passionate about the product we’re selling. I’ve already completely taken advantage of my discount…because I needed to, duh. Overall, things are great on the career front, and I’m excited to share more with you!
You need to put yourself out there.
Since I was with Perry Ellis for over four years, it was a place I truly was comfortable at. I walked in every day, I knew exactly who everyone was, and I was settled in. Even if it comes as a surprise, I’m actually kind of shy! I’m not one to put myself completely out there — I’ll never be the first to introduce myself first, even if I want to (and if I do, it’s because I REALLY wanna meet ya). So when I walked into a new environment, it was tough for me to be my normal outgoing self. I’m trying more and more every day for sure!
Realize it’s not going to be JUST like your previous job.
I took this job knowing it wasn’t going to be exactly like my previous position. I took this position knowing it was actually the opposite of what I was doing at Perry Ellis. At Perry, I was SUPER product focused, involved in EVERYTHING, and oversaw the line from start to finish. That was really awesome, and something I really enjoyed, but I knew I was missing an important aspect of Merchandising: THE NUMBERS SIDE. Dun, dun, dun.
Be open to everything.
Since this was a very different position, I needed to go in with an open mind. Although I’m super passionate about the product, I know that in order for me to continue growing as a merchandiser and become more well-rounded, I need to do something like this. In my previous position, I was really intimidated by numbers. Now, I’m welcoming them with open arms. I’m enjoying learning this side of business, seeing more of the sales side in wholesale, and getting to know the Free People wholesale brand.
Going through that transition period in your life is tough, and starting a new journey is even tougher. It’s always a good idea to trust your gut, go with the flow, and crush this new aspect of your life!
