Dark Horse

With the changing of the seasons, comes an opportunity to switch things up a little in your life. For me, I’m all about changing up my style.

Around my junior year of college, I was all about the “preppy” looks. While I don’t think I was fully identifying myself as a preppy person, I think I was taking classics and wearing looks that would always work. And don’t get me wrong, I still feel the same way about my classic pieces (a crisp white shirt, structured blazer, and a great pair of loafers) – I’ll still always reach for them when in doubt.

As much as I love classic pieces like blazers, flats, and button downs (see what I was wearing last October), I’ve recently been looking for ways to change up what I’m wearing. Whether it’s adding a hat (and at $28 it’s a great option!) or a dark lip, the smallest things can elevate your look to make it what you want to be.

When Meaghan from District Sparkle put this NARS lip pencil on her Snapchat, I felt the urge to get it. So, I went to Sephora, and $118 later, “Train Bleu” was one of my new lip colors to try for fall – along with “Damned”. I tried it on in the car because I was so impatient. And I hated it. Like it was so ugly at first. Oops.

Then a few days later, when I was going to shoot this look, I decided to try it again. I filled in appropriately and added a gloss (NARS “Sixties Fan”)…and it worked! It was definitely different because I don’t wear dramatic lip colors…but I kind of liked it.

What are your thoughts on dark lip colors?
