“The universe sends us exactly what we are ready for at the exact time we need it in our lives.”
And that quote is really how I feel about the relationship I have with Matt. I never get super personal about our relationship because I think there are things that should 100% be kept private. But since it’s Valentine’s Day, I decided to make an exception to my own rule;)
I met Matt through a mutual friend during the summer of 2015. I was in and out of a relationship with a guy from college, and when I met Matt, things kind of just changed for me. And by kind of, I mean my life did a complete 180. So that quote up there really holds a lot of meaning. I truly believe that Matt wasn’t brought into my life by accident. Ever since our first date on August 26, 2015, we’ve been inseparable.
There are SO many things I seriously adore about Matt – things that really make me feel like I’m the luckiest girl in the world, but I had to narrow it down to just a few or else we’d be here for a while;)
His relationship with his parents. They always say that you can tell how a man will be in a relationship based on how he treats his parents. I’ve never met a guy who loved his parents more. Since the day I met Matt’s parents, I knew he was the way he was because of his mom and dad. We’re really similar in the sense that we love going to see our parents, we love hanging with our parents, and we always make sure to call them.
His laugh. It doesn’t take much to make Matt laugh. He’s such a happy person – he still tells me I’m funny though. When he laughs, he’s so animated and the happiness is so contagious. I can’t help but start laughing once he does.
His greys. Oh man, he hates his grey hairs (there’s really not even that many, he’s just dramatic). But I think they’re so cute!
His optimism. Matt is always a positive person. He always reassures me things are good, and if I’m feeling down, he knows how to make a situation better.
His ability to make me laugh. I’ve never dated a guy who has made me laugh or smile as much as Matt has. He is unbelievably silly and he knows exactly what to say and do to get me laughing…especially when I’m in a bad mood (over nothing).
His knowledge of sports. I think you could ask Matt what college any NFL or NBA player went to and he would know the answer. Just need to get him a bit more up to speed on his hockey game;)
His support. A lot of guys don’t understand the whole “I have a fashion blog” thing. My ex-boyfriend was NOT okay with it or with social media in general. So naturally, I was kinda shy to talk about it with Matt, but when I did, it was so awesome to see how curious he was. He was interested in learning more about how I work with brands, how I run my site, and everything in between. He never gives me a hard time when I ask him to take photos with me and even offers to take outfit photos for me if my photographer isn’t available.
His kindness. Right from the beginning, I could tell Matt was just a genuinely good guy. It started with how he treated his friends. Matt doesn’t like arguing with them (or anyone in general). You can just tell Matt is literally “for the boys”. Always was. And I like that about him. You can tell how much his friends adore him too. I’ve always thought that spoke volumes. I come from a family where everyone basically has a heart of gold…it’s nice that Matt (and to be honest, his family) also fits into that category.
His relationship with my family. This is HUGE. My past boyfriends either have a) Never clicked with my family because we were younger, or b) Didn’t put enough effort into having a relationship with my family (among other reasons). With Matt, since the second he met my mom, dad, and sister, they all clicked. Matt would talk to a wall if he wanted to, but it was so nice to hear him having legitimate conversations with my dad about business, my mom about absolutely anything, my brother-in-law and cousins about sports, my sister about drinking;) You get the picture. My heart really bursts when I see him with my nephews and niece. I could leave Matt outside to play with the kids and he is all about it. One time, I found him in my cousins’ basement playing blocks with them for like an hour. *insert heart eye emojis*
So there ya have it. Just a little bit about why I’m pretty much head over heels for that boy. He deserves so much credit for making my life so special, so this is just a little nod to how highly I think of him/how much I truly appreciate Matt!
FUN FACT: For whatever freakin’ reason, ever since I was younger, I had always wanted to date a Matthew. Don’t ask me why, but I guess the universe has a funny way of working sometimes!
*end sappiness, fashion talk will resume tomorrow;)*
