Girl Friendships: Why You Should Celebrate Your Besties

I don’t think there’s anything better than celebrating your best gal pals and girl friendships.

Whether or not you have a significant other, your best friends deserve just as much praise on Valentine’s Day. Don’t you think? I’ve been blessed to have found life long friends throughout my 25 years of living: my seven best friends from high school, Linda and Allie from college, and Elle from post-college.

Linda and I got together one weekend (and Elle was behind the camera), and I forgot how much fun we have together. We talk every single day, but often go weeks without seeing each other. Regardless, the three of us had so much fun shooting, talking, and just being girls. It got me thinking about how much I love my friends, and I hope they know how much I appreciate them!

Girl Friendships: They get you better than anyone else

I mean, they’re girls too after all. Sure, I can complain to Matt about A LOT of things, but he just won’t understand (ahem, especially when it’s that time of the month). So thankfully I got my girls to complain with. They’re truly the only ones who understand me when I say it feels like I have a knife in my uterus;) All jokes aside, a lot of my friends have known me way longer than Matt has known me. Let’s take my friends from high school: We’ve been friends since 2006. That’s 12 years! To say they know me better than I know myself is an understatement. And then there’s Elle. When Elle and I get together, we always have a fun time. Whether it’s talking about blog stuff (yay for being my Brand Manager), recapping our trash TV, or laughing about prayer hands (sorry, had to throw this inside joke in there), the time we spend together makes me so happy! The funniest part about our friendship is that we haven’t even been friends for a year. LIKE WHAT? I feel like I’ve known Elle for YEARS. It’s actually so strange. We legitimately instantly connected from the second we met, and have SO much in common. It’s scary sometimes. But I value our friendship so so so much.

Girl Friendships: You get a break from your significant other

I love Matt. Everyone knows that. But girl time is SO important. There’s nothing better than getting together with your girlfriends and just laughing together. Allie and I shoot on the weekends sometimes and even though we’re technically “working”, we always have fun shooting. Allie also happens to be my travel partner in crime. I love traveling with her because she genuinely loves it too. While spending time with your significant other is very important, there’s nothing like girl time.

Girl Friendships: They inspire the f*ck outta me

My friends do a lot. Two nurses, one of New York’s Finest (yes, one of my besties is a cop), 1 teacher, 1 visual merchandiser, 1 event planner, 2 marketing gurus (Elle, I STILL DON’T KNOW HOW TO DESCRIBE WHAT YOU DO SO I’M PUTTING YOU IN THIS CATEGORY), 1 fashion coordinator, and a photographer. Although I may not understand what it’s like to do their jobs, they’re so inspiring. I’m so proud of everything my best friends do, and what they accomplish. When Allie decided to take her photography business full time, I was SO happy for her. What started out as us just taking photos for fun, has turned into her career. Elle recently got a new, amazing job and I knew it was such a great decision for her. My friends who are nurses literally save lives. It’s also fun having two friends in the fashion industry, so we can talk about it and actually understand each other. And my friend who is a police officer puts her life on the line for regular people like myself. I mean, inspiring people, huh? I consider myself so unbelievably lucky to have these girls in my life.

So whether or not you have one best friend or twenty best friends, make sure to show them some love. Actually, make sure you show them love EVERY DAY, not just when it’s Valentine’s Day!

No inspires me quite like my friends do!! You’re so right that we all have our own “things” but that’s what motivates me and inspires me the most!! Girls kickin’ butts and taking names!!
