Why You Should Be Wearing The Best Summer Hats All Summer Long

This season, my new obsession is a good straw hat. And when I’m obsessed with a certain piece, I tend to own a lot of them.

Enter: The straw hat.

I got my first cool Panama hat in 2014 and my mom told me I looked like Pharrell. So I didn’t really wear hats too often after that. Then, I started wearing wool hats (see this post) and soon after became obsessed with boater hats in Spring/Summer 2016. I didn’t find the “perfect” boater hat until I found a random $29 one (sold out, but last seen here, and similar one here). I began wearing it non-stop and wanted to add more and more of the best summer hats to my collection. So I did just that. And I realized there are so many reasons why wearing a hat during the summer is so important.

They offer UV protection.

Now that I’m “older”, I’m trying not to forget about my skin and want to prevent aging at ALL costs. Unfortunately, I love the sun. I love being in the sun, I love being tan, and that’s definitely a problem. Oh and I also am prone to cold sores (THANKS MOM…), and tend to get them when I’m out in the sun. Recently, I’ve been making sure to put sunscreen on instead of tanning oils, UV protectant lip balm, and limiting my time in the sun. Who knew you can still get tan with sunscreen on?;) I’ve also been keeping in mind that the sun still beats down on me while I’m walking around. This is where my hat obsession comes in. Although you definitely should still be wearing sunscreen, a hat helps limit how much sun is hitting your face directly. If this doesn’t encourage you to jump on the hat trend, I don’t know what will!

They hide your dirty hair.

If we’re being honest, I only wash my hair 2-3 times a week. I have fine hair, but a lot of it, so I can go a decent time without washing my hair and sticking with dry shampoo (I swear by this one). Even when I was younger, the doctor told my mom I didn’t have to wash my hair so frequently — it strips away the natural oils and we don’t want that! And on the days when dry shampoo just DOESN’T work, a hat does the trick. Usually when I’m flying, I stick to a baseball cap (can we talk about this one, I LOVE it), but when I’m looking to look somewhat put together, I reach for my straw hats!

They’re just a fashionable accessory.

And when you’re looking to add just a little more ooomph to your look, all you need to do is throw one of the best summer hats to make it complete. Personally, I love wearing hats with dresses (Side note: This dress is actually an off the shoulder dress, BUT it was unbelievably hot in Salem, so I decided to make it strapless. #versatility). But obviously they look great with a more casual look like denim and t-shirt. I also love that hats (particularly straw hats for summer) comes in all different shapes, patterns, sizes and colors. It just makes it more fun for your collection. When I got this black hat, I loved it so much that I ordered it in two other colors. Aggressive. I know.

I have a floppy hat that’s literally a foot and a half in diameter. My entire body is covered, and I’m so obsessed. When I first got it, I was so extra, I wore it around the house lol! Your ‘dolce vita’ tote is soooo cute!

Hiding dirty hair = my main reason for hats honestly, lol! I love this one on you, at first I wasn’t sure about a black hat and dark hair combo for me, but now I’m totally adding a black hat to my collection!

Hats are always my go-to!! My hair has a life of it’s own and when I actually straighten it I like it to last for a week so when I’m approaching 5-6 days hats it is!
