You know those days where you’re just staring at your closet waiting for an outfit idea to pop into your head? Yeah, me too. And it’s frustrating, we’ve all been there. Would you believe me if I said I had a life changing hack? It’s not even groundbreaking, but it’s something that we should remind ourselves of every time we get dressed.
Enter: THE OUTFIT FORMULA
Getting dressed REALLY shouldn’t be complicated, but honestly, it stresses me out sometimes. Like to the point where my mood will completely change. I know, it’s crazy. When I need some outfit inspo, I usually check out older posts of mine or go on social media. But I wanted to figure out something else that works for me. Since I want to prevent something as trivial as CLOTHES from ruining my mood as much as possible, I’ve started utilizing outfit formulas. With outfit formulas, I’m able to think about the TYPES of pieces vs. specific things in my closet. These are things that I know are absolutely foolproof, and do not take much effort to put together. Let’s use an example.
Trousers For Spring + A Sweater
Two things that I know go together seamlessly? Trousers and a sweater. Trousers for spring are becoming more and more popular. I’ve been loving all of the different silhouettes and fabrications. For me, I personally love a wide leg drapey trouser. I’ve posted about these trousers so many times, and they’re 100% a staple in my wardrobe. And sweaters, there’s obviously not enough good things to say about them. I would say sweaters are my favorite type of clothing ever. I gravitate towards sweaters every single season – yes, even summer.
Trousers are just so effortless. And sweaters are also very effortless. So when you combine the two, you get a GREAT outfit. My trousers for spring are typically high waisted (I own these in all four colors), so I know I’m going to need either: 1. A lightweight sweater that can be tucked into them or 2. A shorter/cropped sweater.
And that’s really it. Yes, it’s that simple!
From there, that’s where you can start having some more creative freedom (LOL that sounds too serious). Add the accessories, pick out a fun shoe, add another layer. This is how you’ll be able to differentiate the look every time, so you don’t feel like you’re a serious outfit repeater (although there’s NOTHING wrong with that!!).
I would consider trousers for spring an absolute basic in your wardrobe. There are so many different ways to wear them, and you should absolutely experiment with them. BUT, when it’s just ONE. OF. THOSE. DAYS? Use this outfit formula to help!
Stay tuned for the next outfit formula post — coming next week!
