Things I’m Appreciative Of During The Covid-19 Outbreak

Sure, there are a lot of things I really miss right now, but there are a lot of things I’m appreciative of.

During this time, we’re all probably missing a lot of things. Or there’s things we’re never going to take for granted again.

But then again, there’s a lot of things I’m realizing during this time. I think a lot of people, myself included, are thinking about all the things that are horrible during this time. It’s natural. It makes sense. We’re not living in normal times, so of course we’re going to find anything and everything to complain about. It’s been nice to think about things that do bring me joy, even in a pretty dark time.

I want to share these small, yet powerful things that are keeping me going in hopes that you’ll also share what you’re appreciative of during this time.

my job

This is first and foremost for obvious reasons. Every single morning, I wake up and I’m like, “wow, I’m so lucky I have to wake up and start working right now.” A lot of people don’t have that luxury. I know SO many people who were either laid off completely or furloughed during this time. It’s a really scary reality. The fashion industry is an absolute mess right now, that’s for sure. I’m lucky to work for a company that is doing well in these times, all things considered. It’s actually insane, during our meetings we’re like “HOW IS THIS HAPPENING?”…but definitely NOT complaining.

On the flipside, it’s not like everything is just going to be back up and running once we’re on the other side of Covid-19. It’s going to take a LONG time to rebuild businesses. And consumers are definitely not going to shop the way they did pre-Covid-19. I think people will spend smarter, spend when necessary, and just be more conscious about their overall purchases.

But nonetheless, I’m VERY thankful to have my job.

facetime / technology

Technology is honestly something to not take for granted right now. I literally have two working laptops for my 9-to-5 and my personal laptop for my business. I’ve actually always been a fan of FaceTiming, but now more than ever.

It’s nice to just randomly FaceTime your friends when you need a laugh and want to see their faces. Even seeing my coworkers over WebEx meetings has been making me happy. My sister and I got on a group FaceTime with our dad, and it was the cutest thing to see how happy he got when he realized he can FaceTime both of his daughters. *insert crying face* This is something I’m SUPER appreciative to have during this time.

I love seeing all of the virtual happy hours, birthday parties, and even gender reveals (my sister and her friends LOL) that have been going on. I love that people are still connecting. It’s needed now more than ever.

a place to be

This should be a no-brainer. I keep seeing things that say, “You’re not stuck at home, you’re safe at home.” And that easily put a lot of things into perspective. It’s so true. I have a place to stay every day that’s equipped with all of the necessities, food, water, snacks, and someone to be with 24/7. It may seem like we’re going through the motions while being inside most of the day, but it’s good time to sit and reflect on all of the things you HAVE during this time.

We spend most of the day separated in different rooms and doing our own work…but it’s STILL A LOT. Some days, on the other hand, it’s actually been super comforting. I’m trying to get in the habit of “creating” plans: movie nights, dance parties, cooking together….etc. All things we would normally do when I was at my office from 9-to-5 and hanging out afterwards.

the digital space

The influencer industry has been affected just like every other industry. There’s been good things about influencers (i.e. raising money, donating, sharing positivity, etc.) and there’s been some not so good things about influencers (i.e. what influencers “shouldn’t” be doing, privilege, etc.). People are naturally on their phones WAY more than they normally are. For me, I’ve been really enjoying seeing other influencers’ content. I wrote this post about who I’ve really been looking at over the last few weeks, but honestly, that list could have went on and on. People are getting CREATIVE with their content because they have to. The first two weeks, I was honestly NOT in a good place when it came to getting blog and business work done.

I was mad I had to shift my mindset to this new, weird content, and I didn’t want to post what everyone else was posting. I think I got to a point where I was SO bored and wasn’t happy with how I was handling this new normal…that it felt RIGHT to start creating content again. I slowly went from not posting, to posting twice a week, and now posting 3 times a week as normal (THANK GOD FOR ELLE AND HER ELLE’S EDIT!).

I’m also VERY thankful I have a team that is still working to maintain my contracts, payments, and secure future collaborations for my business. That’s definitely something that made me make sure I was still creating content. At the end of the day, this is still my job. I still have brands that could be deciding between myself and another influencer for a campaign. WERK. STILL. NEEDS. TO. GET. DONE.

So while there are things I miss so much, there are a lot of things I’m super thankful for during this time. What are you feeling appreciative of right now?
