In November, I finally decided to go on a SurfYogaBeer trip. If you read this post, you know that I’ve known Mantas and SYB for over four years, yet never went on a trip. Well, I’m so happy I finally did this little long weekend getaway to Miami! I left feeling tired, a little sunburned, and more inspired than ever. It’s crazy how 30 strangers met and four days later, we left as friends.

I’ve always admired the SYB mentality of “don’t think, just do”, and that’s exactly what I told myself I was going to do this weekend. I was going to put myself out there, push my comfort zone limits, and make the most out of this weekend.

In just four short days, I learned a lot about myself, my friendships, and what I enjoy most. I’ve always loved the community feeling. I’ve been part of teams for most of my life. I think that’s what drew me to SurfYogaBeer: the community aspect. Sure, there’s a lot of other things to love about SYB, but community is at the top of my list. There’s no better feeling than being part of something. And with SYB, it’s just that: Once you’re part of the SYB crew, you’re truly part of something. We’re talking about people from ALL OVER THE WORLD coming together for a few days…and create friendships for a lifetime. People who are SO SO SO different, yet have SYB in common.

And that’s exactly what Miami was.

There were so many different souls: Some whom I knew, some whom I may have seen in passing at SoulCycle, and some whom I’ve never seen before.

We did yoga, we played capture the flag, we ate together, we took tequila shots together, we danced together, we SoulCycle’d to the beat together, we partied on a boat (and on the party bus) together….WE DID IT ALL. Together. So no, I’m not the strongest or the fittest or the funniest (but I mean, come on I’m close up there), but none of that mattered on this trip. No one was judged by anyone — and that’s the beauty of SurfYogaBeer. It was fun getting to know people from scratch, ya know? I had NO idea who was coming on this trip, so first impressions were everything. And everyone made an impression on each other this trip. That’s for sure.

SurfYogaBeer has brought so many beautiful people in my life, and I’m actually really thankful for that. Between our leaders and the people that were on this trip, I couldn’t have asked for a better first SurfYogaBeer experience. As soon as I left, I was ready to book the next adventure for 2019. Our What’s App chat is still going strong, we’re planning reunions, and obviously double-tapping on those IG posts;)
