How To Get This New Yorker To The Beach

Growing up, I wasn’t much of a beach girl. This is partly to blame on my parents – my mom HATES the sun (she’s very fair), and my dad is more of a pool guy (he LOVES the sun).

I also didn’t grow up in a beach town. The nearest beach is around 1 hour away…and Coney Island doesn’t count because #gross;) So naturally since getting to the beach isn’t the easiest, I don’t gravitate towards it. HOWEVER, this past weekend, I went to Long Beach, and it was such a great day! You’ll see that my opinion on the beach changed because getting to the beach became easier!

Make it more than a beach day.

While I love being tan, I don’t really love laying out in the sun all day. I get antsy very quickly, and can’t usually lay still for longer than 30 minutes at a time. Oh, and it’s obviously not the best for your skin (don’t worry a lot of SPF was applied). So when Allie and I headed to Long Beach, we were pleasantly surprised that there was a street fair going on. It felt nice to escape the sand for a few hours out of our day, walk around, and enjoy the sunshine from the boardwalk! There were so many different vendors and food trucks while we were there, which made the day that much better. I obviously REALLY enjoyed my ice.

Find a fun way of transportation.

I don’t always have a car when I’m home, and to be honest, I don’t like driving to or parking at the beach. And that’s why going forward, I’m going to rely on Skedaddle to get me there. Skedaddle is essentially a ride share app for longer distances (available in Boston and New York City…for now). It’s great if you’re going to an event (like a concert) because you can start your own route, and have your friends all join that way OR you can hop on a route already created! For the rest of the Saturdays in July, Skedaddle is offering $10 round trip rides to Long Beach!

My experience with Skedaddle was nothing short of amazing from start to finish. Seriously. Getting to the beach couldn’t have been easier! The pick up location was easy to get to, the charter was on time going to and from Long Beach, and the ride was super comfortable. This is definitely a service I’ll be using as a New Yorker (I have a few concerts coming up, YAY). If you’re in Boston or New York, I highly recommend Skedaddle as your mode of transportation!

Tell me the water is warm.

No, seriously. Just lie to me and tell me the water is warm. I’ve always hated cold water (ocean, pool, shower, ANYTHING). And I actually LOVE to swim and be in the water. I think playing in the ocean is really fun, so just lie and tell me it’s warm to get me to the beach. I might hate you for a few minutes, but once I’m in the water, I’ll be fine. When we were at the beach, we had to be particular about when we left our umbrella spot because Allie’s skin likes to reflect the sun. So I opted to hang with her and not be the loser in the water by myself;)

Overall, Saturday was such a great day. I hadn’t been to the beach in FOREVER, and now I think I might slooooowly start becoming a beach goer…especially when Skedaddle takes me there!
