When fall comes around, I really feel like it’s my personal style’s time to shine. Being in New York during the fall is actually incredible. But it also, in a way, makes me feel like fall happens earlier than it does. I don’t know how to explain it, so please let me know if you understand that sentiment. Basically, it’ll be another month(ish) before it gets cold enough to wear those serious fall pieces (like a blazer) So let’s talk about those in between ones.
A Simple Outfit For Fall With These Pieces
I’m going to assume if you’re reading this, you probably have some version of all of the pieces I’m going to chat about. That’s the best part of a simple outfit – knowing you can easily take out pieces from all different seasons/years and mix and match them. This is a great way to take mental inventory of your closet, and take some time to decide if there are certain things that you need to refresh.
The Trench Coat
I really don’t think I need to say much about the trench coat. I love that they can be chic, fun, and serious at the same time. I love how lightweight trench coats are, so they work with many different items in your closet (a button down or t-shirt for now, and a thick wool sweater for later). I’m very much a firm believer that your first (and potentially only) trench coat should be a classic fit. I personally own this one, and it is something I just KNOW will be in my closet for years and years.
The Button Down
I don’t care WHAT your personal style is, a button down deserves to be in every single person’s closet. The best thing about button downs is that they come in so many fits, colors, and patterns – so you’re bound to find one that works with your style.
The Jeans
I’ve been leaning into denim a lot lately – specifically lighter, straight, and wide leg jeans. Jeans are wildly classic and the final outcome of your look truly depends on the style of dream. I don’t know why it was always hard for me to admit I’m a denim girl through and through.
The Sweater
I’m going to make a bold statement. If there is any sweater you need, it’s this cashmere one. I have it in two colors last year and I’m SO glad it was brought back this year because I missed out on some really great colors – I mean I NEED the grey. This sweater can be layered, worn alone, half tucked, over leggings (or even with shorts like I have here)…ALL THE WAYS! It’s the perfect, most delicious cashmere and I love cozy-ing up in it.
The Shoes
Now that it’s fall, I know I should be excited for boots and booties. And I am. But I cannot get past a great pair of flats, specifically ballet flats. I continue to buy them – all different shapes, colors, patterns, etc. You name it, I want it. Thanks to the Alaia leopard ballerinas, I think leopard flats are having a bit of a comeback (I have this pair and love, but also these were a serious contender). Pairing ballet flats with chunky sweaters is my version of the perfect outfit, so I really can’t get enough of them.
