New York Fashion Week is over. Done. Finito. But man it was special. Here’s why.
Of course my company’s show was the biggest and most important show in my eyes, but there were a few other reasons why I felt different this NYFW.
- I did more networking. As a blogger in New York City, there shouldn’t be a time when I’m NOT networking. There are so many fantastic opportunities to meet new people. And a lot of the time, good things come out of meeting those people. My favorite thing was brunch on Sunday with the Mode (formally known as just Glam) team and a few amazing bloggers/YouTubers. It was really great getting to know them on a personal level and hear about some exciting things happening at Mode!
- I felt like a blogger. No, I didn’t attend 2901092 shows – I have a full-time job that comes before everything – but I just felt like I was a part of it. Going to Lincoln Center, shooting some looks, and seeing some of my favorite bloggers who I look up to, really just solidified how much I love this little space of mine. And how I hope I can continue to create content that will bring you back here every week!
- I’m so happy to be home in New York. Being away at college for four years was pretty rough (when it comes to missing New York, at least). I remember being in class and pulling out my laptop to watch different shows during lectures – sorry not sorry. But now, I’m literally right where the magic happens. During September NYFW, I felt like I was still getting used to my new position, so I wasn’t really paying attention to what was happening elsewhere in the fashion industry. Now that I’m comfortable in my role, I embraced New York Fashion Week with open arms. Oh, and did I mention how badass our show was? 😉
Whew. That was a lot to handle, my bad. Still with me? Do you need more coffee to get through this post? Maybe some alcohol (KIDDING, IT’S EARLY).
Let’s talk about actual fashion now…
During New York Fashion Week, people tend to wear, um, intense looks. I, on the other hand, stick to what I know and love. I kept it simple this time around.
I wore this look to our fashion show. I knew I needed to work till about 4ish before heading over to Metropolitan West, so I wanted to wear something comfortable but put together.
Obviously, I love my layers (and so does my Creative Director), and I love a good contrast – so I paired my go-to sweater with an extra long tunic and threw on my absolute favorite pair of pumps and was ready to go.
I might have also jumped the gun a bit by leaving my coat at the office and just throwing on my blazer. Our Uber dropped us off two blocks from our venue by accident, (bad rating for you, sir) so when I really thought I’d be doing the whole “cab-to-curb” thing, it really meant walking…in the wind and cold. So yeah, I learned my lesson real quick.
As far as accessories, I kept them light. I chose a fun pair of earrings (love these), a simple necklace, and a pop of color to compliment my black and white look.
While this is such a simple look that I wore, maybe next year I’ll wear something as fabulous as this 😉
