My New Fall Uniform

I know I’m not alone when I say the best feeling in the world is not having to think about what you’re going to wear. Every morning you can wake up and put on your “uniform”…and head out the door, no questions asked.

I think you guys are well aware at how much I love Fall. I think it’s just such a great excuse to hit the refresh button and put your foot on the gas to finish out the end of the year (can’t believe I’m saying that) on a strong note. But today, I wanted to talk about the fashion behind my Fall uniform. I know I’ve been straying from my typical fashion-related content, but since I genuinely love everything about Fall pieces- styles, fabrics, the ability to mix and match – I decided to write about them.

Two absolutely must have pieces for my Fall uniform in my closet are a blazer and a good pair of flats. For years I was extremely loyal to my J.Crew Schoolboy blazers (last seen here). I owned every single neutral color and wore them almost every day – especially in college. When I graduated college, I thought I was all set for work because of my blazer collection. J.Crew then discontinued the Schoolboy blazer and came out with the Regent blazer. This new blazer was cut a bit longer than the traditional Schoolboy, and I really liked that. As the years went on, the tailored look started to become less and less important to me, which is why I appreciated the Regent blazer so much. At first.

Let’s just fast-forward to 2017 and I am officially all about that oversized look. It started when I came across this blazer while I was scrambling to find a brunch outfit (two hours before brunch, typical). I realized just how easy it was to throw on a blazer over ANYTHING and be on your way. I’m all about the no frills, stress-free outfit for a great Fall uniform. Although I don’t work in a super corporate (I shouldn’t say that because it’s very corporate, we just have a lax dress code…for the most part) environment, it’s still fun to get dressed for work wearing these kinds of pieces.

So I did my research (aka shopping) and found this beautiful black blazer. At under $100, it’s definitely not high quality by any means, but it pulls together a look instantly. The oversized fit is perfect (I’m wearing a small), and was exactly what I was looking for. I wish it came in more colors! The brand offers another long line style in two more colors, so I might see how these compares to this black one. I shall let you know, don’t you worry;)

Now let’s get into flats.

I’ve always been extremely picky when it came to shoes. I was an athlete all of my life so I typically only wore basketball sneakers or running shoes. And Jordan slides when I wasn’t wearing either of those. When I was in college, I purchased my first pair of Madewell flats – the sidewalk skimmer to be exact (UGH, WISH THEY STILL MADE THEM). At first I HATED THEM. I didn’t understand why something so cute would hurt so much. I had never broken in a pair of shoes like that and my feet were torn up. I remember doing everything I could to break them in and nothing worked. So I suffered through the pain and eventually they became the best flats I owned.

That’s when my love affair with flats began.

I truly love an adorable pair of flats. And don’t you think they just pair perfectly with a blazer? If you haven’t heard of Birdies Slippers, you’re missing out. I was introduced to the brand about a year ago, and this is my first pair! They aren’t just a cutesy name either — these are ACTUALLY slippers. You’d never guess, right? They’re UNBELIEVABLY cozy and keep your feet nice and toasty when the air is crisp. I mean, there’s nothing better than being cozy for fall, and we shouldn’t forget about our feet!

What’s your go-to look…or better yet, your Fall uniform?

You look so cute! I love the Regent blazer but I’m also really into the oversize look. Can’t go wrong with blazers IMO.

I think my uniform for fall is definitely a pair of black jeans, some Chelsea boots, and a monochrome sweater! I’m all about the simple looks in the fall. Comfort all the way!
