MDW Plans + How To Pack For The Non-Traditional Getwaway

MDW is right around the corner, and I am counting down the hours!

This year I’m doing something a bit different: My family is going up to Vermont! Well, the “kids” are going up. My cousins recently bought a huge piece of property in Vermont, and my sister and I have been dying to go up. We basically told them “this is what we’re doing Memorial Day Weekend”. There’s A LOT of us: Myself, Matt, my sister (Nicole), my brother-in-law (Chris), my cousins (Alex & Kate, Lorraine & Charlie), and ALL SIX BABIES (Maddie, Charlie, John, Aiden, Alex, and Maeve). I’m seriously ecstatic! Their property is right on a lake, and they have jet skis, a hot tub….and we’ll have A LOT of delicious beverages.

This isn’t my “normal” MDW plans. The older I get, the less time I want to spend down the shore partying from Friday to Monday. So now I need to think about my vacations a bit differently when I pack.

Think about what you’re going to be doing

Sure, I’ll be packing bathing suits, but for the most part this is going to be a chill weekend. Do I want to shoot some blog content, DUH. But that’s not what I’m trying to make this weekend about. I’m thinking joggers, cut off shorts, cozy sweatshirts for the night, and easy to wear tank tops. We’ll probably be doing a lot of lounging and hanging out in the hot tub (not sure if the lake is warm enough to swim in).

Don’t go overboard or overpack

I am THE QUEEN of over-packing. THE QUEEEEEEEN. I typically just throw everything into a suitcase and figure it out when I get to my destination. But not this time. Like I mentioned above, it’s going to be a chill weekend, so I’m looking forward to not having to think about what I’m bringing. I DO know I’m going to bring ALL. OF. THE. SKINCARE. PRODUCTS. My sister and I love doing our routines together (we usually do it over FaceTime, LOL), so it’ll be fun to do it together while we’re in Vermont.

It’s OK not to pack everything under the sun. Since we’re driving, the thought it automatically in my head that I can bring anything I want. But I don’t necessarily want to do that.  I’m keeping the outfits to a minimum, and only bringing things I truly need.

Bring something non-traditional, do something fun

I’m going to make a conscious effort to keep my phone usage to a minimum. I’m 100000% bringing What Do You Meme, and my current read, Crazy Rich Asians. I’m really hoping the weather is perfect up there because I want to play flip cup slip and slide (YES, it’s exactly as fun/crazy as it sounds).

This weekend will be SO much fun. We’re all so excited, and I can’t wait to have a long weekend of downtime and family time. What are your weekend plans for the holiday? Are you heading to the beach or doing something totally different?
