Do you ever wish you were a boy? Sometimes I do. *cue Beyonce’s “If I Were A Boy”*
I think working in menswear has really changed my perspective on how I dress. Of course it’s fun to put on a LDB every once in a while, but for the most part I am to be comfortable and still look like I know what I’m doing.
And most of the time, I’m just insanely jealous that men look comfortable all of the time. (Except when they’re in suits and sweating on the subway while I’m in boyfriend jeans and a tank top. Then I just feel bad.)
Ya feel me?
Two women who I think absolutely nail the “menswear inspired looks” are Jenna Lyons of J.Crew and Marissa Webb of Banana Republic.
They always seem to have the perfect balance between menswear pieces and feminine items. I love it. So naturally, when I love something, I try to make it work for my style. Let’s talk about it, shall we?
At work, we’re always trying to incorporate joggers into our line – main collection, runway, active, etc. For men, they’re all about “active” lifestyles and we want them to be able to take their looks to and from the gym and work.
With women, it’s a little different. I think joggers are all about how you can “dress it up” or jump on the whole athleisure trend. For me, I love taking laid back pieces and dressing them up. Hence why I threw my Chanel over my shoulder and slipped into some heels.
Usually I believe in the whole, “if one piece is slouchy, the other should be tailored”, but for this look, I went all in. My boyfriend popover was a good option to maximize comfort – which, in my book, is a win.
(PS: Read how I got this shirt and another LBD in this post here. It’s a good one, I swear.)
