P(R)EP IN MY STEP

Sometimes life is like Kevin McCallister when he’s throwing bricks from the roof of an apartment in NYC onto Marv.

Without going into details (we’ll save that for a rainy day), that’s how I feel lately…..Like life is continuously throwing brick after brick onto my face. Lots of times I think how unfair some circumstances are – and often I wonder why these things were thrown my way.

With the support of my friends, family, boyfriend, bosses and some deep meditation during SoulCycle (yes, I close my eyes a lot of the time to think during class, lol), I’ve been able to see the good things that come from bad situations.

Because honestly, shit happens.

And honestly, things could be worse.

So I tried thinking about the positive things that come from shitty things.

I’ve realized just how supportive my friends are, and how they’ve been my rocks for 10 years. I’ve realized just how much I can care about one person and put them before myself because he’s so special to me. I’ve realized how amazing it is to have two bosses who are mentors to me and have been there for me both professionally and personally. And finally, I’ve realized just how lucky I am to have my family members be my family members – and how appreciative I am to have time with them – especially today, it’s my daddy’s 66th birthday (we’re going to celebrate with milkshakes).

I’ve also realized that when times get tough, or life unexpectedly throws bricks at you, you can’t let it ruin you. Being positive in hard situations is the best form of therapy. Whether it’s having tons of belly laughs with your best friends, or a fun dinner with your bosses, or an all night snuggle sesh with the person you love, or watching a TV series with your family – you always need to be grateful for those little things. And remember: If you’ve hit rock bottom…..the only place to go is up. So, put a pep in your step and get movin’.

Oh, and don’t forget to smile. There’s always, always, always a reason (or reasons) to smile.
