Elle’s Edit: Last Minute Gifts For Your Boss You Can Get During Lunch

The time is ticking to get last minute gifts. And this includes your boss.

It is always so awkward deciding on whether or not to get your boss a gift for the holidays. Why? Well, you don’t want to give them something and make them feel bad for not getting you something and vice versa. What I’ve learned over the past couple of years of working, it is best to get something little for your boss and a card saying you appreciate their leadership (even if you don’t lol). So, since today is Thursday and most people have their last day in the office either today or tomorrow, you have to act now! Luckily all of these gifts that I’m listing below, you can get right now on your way to work or on your lunch break.

Gather your coworkers on your team and contribute money for a American Express or Visa gift card. This is what my coworkers and I did, there are 8 of us that wanted to contribute so we got a $200 gift card. This was only $20 a person! It makes a great gift because our boss can purchase whatever they want with that money. We added a nice card that everyone signed before heading out for the holidays.

My go-to is a coffee mug filled with chocolates. Everyone in the world likes coffee or tea so this makes a perfect gift and they can keep the mug in the office. I made the mistake my first year getting a seasonal mug but soon realized that it wasn’t very practical because by the time they can use it again in the office it is well after New Years. The best part about this gift is that any drug store sells mugs, they may not be the cutest, but they do the trick. My favorite candy to include inside is Hershey kisses or Lindt chocolates.

Treat them to coffee! Do you know what their favorite coffee is? If so, surprise them in the morning with a cup or treat them to an afternoon coffee break. This can give you one-on-one time with them and you can have casual conversations over a cup of coffee. You can also treat them out to lunch while you both are out grabbing some food. It is really simple but can go a long way.

A notebook! I was at CVS the other day and they actually had really cute notebooks. I thought this would make a good gift because everyone has a notebook on their desk and takes it to every meeting with them.

Last but not least, make sure you do not buy them a product that is considered a competitor product. I’ll never forget when I worked at Target, one coworker got our boss an Amazon gift card. Sounds fine right? Well when you think about it, we shouldn’t be buying anything from Amazon while working at Target HQ. It is our biggest competitor!

What did you get your boss, if anything?
