Elle’s Edit: How To Get Through Winter

Will winter ever end?

Reasons To Love Winter Fashion

Here in NYC on Monday we faced temperatures and windchills in the single digits. Y’all, it was FREEZING. Luckily as the week went on the temperatures rose but not enough for me to feel warm. I have to admit, I love the cooler temperatures especially after a couple of months of pure sweating however when it is this cold all I can think of is warm temperatures and dare I say…SPRING? January and February are notorious for being cold and frankly March too. We can all agree that the winter is brutal but instead of complaining about it, I have come up with a couple of ways to survive it.

Book a trip. I am so fortunate to say that my parents have a house in Naples, Florida so whenever I need to get away to the warmth I have the opportunity to do so. I definitely don’t take advantage of this very often because the flights have become more and more expensive going down there. I swear Naples has been “trending” on Instagram and as much as I love people bringing awareness to the great beach town, it definitely is making it expensive. I did not travel home last Easter because I was just starting a new job AND the prices were insane. I was telling Dana last week but I couldn’t find a flight down there this year that is less than $1,100! How CRAZY is that? I can go to EUROPE with that price. Still TBD on if I am going to go down there but having a warm vacation on my calendar makes winter more bearable.

Wear slippers. After 26 years of my life, I am happy to report that I am now a slippers gal. I picked up these slippers (now 60% off!) right before Christmas and have not looked back. I wear them constantly in my apartment and honestly I feel warmer and more put together. Weird I know!

Make tea. Over the past couple of weeks I have become a tea drinker. I drink a cup of tea right before bed or right after dinner. It warms up my entire body and helps me relax while watching TV.

Ditch your salads and bring a warm lunch. Don’t get me wrong but I love a good salad for lunch however since it is freezing I have switched over to recipes using my Crockpot (check out my favorite recipes here) or new Dutch Oven and I am so glad that I did. I am no longer freezing at my desk after lunch and have something comforting to look forward to for every lunch.

Buy some new clothes. Is there anything more exciting than a new wardrobe? Don’t think so. I am so happy to see spring arrivals starting to come in stores however I still find it too early. I am still shopping for cozy sweaters since I feel like I wear the same ones on rotation but incorporating brighter color sweaters definitely brightens up the mood during the dull winter months.

What do you do to get through the winter?
