Ah February, the slowest month of the year, don’t you think?
After the holidays being over, getting back to the grind in January, we have made it mid-way though February and it feels like winter just is never ending. The temperatures haven’t been too bad here in NYC (#blessed) but it just feels like the days are dragging on and spring just seems so far away. I have noticed however how the days are getting longer and longer which makes such a difference. Hang in there folks! We are almost on the rise. In the meantime, I wanted to share with you all the things I do to make the winter blues go away.
Switch up you routine– I try to do this every now and then so I get out of my funk and I truly believe it helps. The one thing I have to say that you need to be consistent about is going to bed and waking up around the same time every day. Once you change your sleep routine I find it really hard to get back into it. Mix up your steps of how you get ready every morning, walk down a different street to work, take a different workout class, you name it, there are ways to switch it up.
Book a trip to look forward to– this really helps me especially if it is to a warmer destination. I just booked my trip to Naples to visit my parents for Easter and I am already counting the days. Book a trip with your girlfriends in the spring/summer (ahem Dana and Allie) that way you have some time each week to plan your trip and find ways to get excited.
Vitamin C– I’ve been eating so many oranges like they are going out to style recently and I think it has been helping my mood and keeping me from getting sick (knock on wood). I also have been increasing my tea intake and finding new kinds of teas to have around 3pm and then right before I go to bed. It is something that I find myself that I look forward to each and every day.
Don’t let gloomy weather dampen your mood– I feel like the whole month of February so far has been gloomy and rainy. I try not to wake up dreading the day just because I know the weather is going to be crappy. I’m trying to be more positive every day and find ways to make me happy. Also the gross weather shouldn’t cramp your style either! I have been wearing my pink sweaters or fun printed loafers to brighten my mood and make something happy to look at. My coworkers have been appreciating it too!
Buy yourself some flowers– I was so good at doing this last year and I need to get back to it. Spending $10 a week on flowers that will last over a week is SO worth it. You will wake up happy and go to bed happy as you walk past them. Change them up each week to switch it up and enjoy the beautiful floral scent that will spread throughout your home.
What do you do to get rid of your winter blues?
