Mothers do not lie about anything especially when it comes to taking care of your skin starting at a very young age.
I have to admit, over the years I’ve become much better about protecting my skin and taking good care of it. My grandma has amazing skin and probably got her first wrinkle on her 90th birthday (lucky her) so I seriously hope I have her genes. But if not, I have luckily developed a skincare routine and I started investing in products that will pay off over time. Over the years, I’ve spoken to a bunch of friends, dermatologists, did research online, and spoke with people at Sephora and I’m happy with the products that I’ve been using and wanted to share with you my skin journey.
SPF
This one is KEY regardless what season we are in. When I was a teenager I would literally lay out every second I could and would wear spf 8 on my face (I’m cringing writing this). Being tan, at that time, made you look cool but as we got older I feel like we don’t have to be tan all the time and can embrace our natural skin tone. I honestly want to thank my girl Taylor Swift (I love her) rocking her pale skin 365 days a year and making it just fine. My favorite sunscreens to date are Neutrogena, Banana Boat, and lip balm with SPF. For my face and body I always go with 30. Who knew you could still get tan with spf 30! Honestly wish I listened to my mom a long time ago on that one.
Breathable Makeup
To be honest, I’m not the biggest makeup wearer. If wearer is even a word. I have stuck with the same products for years now because once I find something that works, I stick to it. It is so important to find products that allow your skin to breath. I know so many people that cake on products and they are constantly fighting with breakouts. My top products are as follows, concealer (which I use on occasion), powder, blush, and my favorite bronzer.
Vitamins
I go through periods of my life where I am so committed to taking vitamins. It’s weird. I used to take a multivitamin and fish oil. I never liked the taste of them and found them horrible to take so that is why I have not been consistent. If you take any vitamins, I would love to hear which ones you love!
Drinking Water
Water. Water. Water. Easier said than done, huh? I have my Contigo water bottle that I love that sits next to my desk at work. I try my hardest to fill this up 3-4 times a day to remind myself to constantly drink water. Water helps my skin significantly and makes me feel so much better. I have to say that I am getting better about it, especially during the week, but it is so hard for some reason during the weekend!
Eye Cream
I thank my mom for this one. She got me La Mer a couple of years ago for Christmas but home girl can’t afford that on her own so I’ve recently developed the Fresh brand eye cream to be used at night and then my new favorite product (maybe ever) the First Aid Beauty AM eye cream! I discovered this stuff at Sephora not too long ago and wish I discovered it earlier. Both items are pretty reasonable and make you feel so nice and refreshed, especially the AM eye cream. I pair this with my First Aid Beauty (can you tell I’m obsessed?) moisturizer and call it a day! (Editor’s Note: She got me HOOKED on First Aid Beauty!)
Face Masks
I love doing a face mask every single Sunday night before bed. For some reason it makes me feel put together and ready to tackle the week. I have been using the Neutrogena brand for YEARS and love it however I’ve discovered the Sephora brand one along with the creme shop masks.
Tea
Fun fact, I love tea. I think it is because it keeps me warm and is so soothing. In my office, there is a horrible draft so I find myself drinking tea whenever I am cold. My favorite tea brand by far is Yogi and love trying all their different flavors. My go to’s are always Bedtime, Green Tea Super Antioxidant, and Refreshing Mint Vital Energy. Now, my latest obsession since it is starting to finally get warm is iced Starbucks Green Tea even though I get back to my desk shivering because I feel like I need to chew all the ice (LOL).
