The Other Big Ben: 3 Tips For The Perfect Classic Outfit

I decided to wear a classic outfit to meet Big Ben (I wanted to impress him after all).

THE LOOK | cashmere turtleneck (under $100!), floral topper (sold out, similar here, here, and here), skinny jeans, loafers, celine sunglasses, celine bag, red lip – dragon girl

A little fun fact (which many of you might know already): I’m a HUGE Steelers fan. So I titled this post, “The Other Big Ben”, because of Big Ben Roethlisberger. Moving right along…

These are my favorite pictures from London. We decided to go for sunset (because I really, really, really wanted this photo), and it ended up being the most perfect time to go. Granted, it was a bit crowded, but so worth it. As I mentioned before, I wanted to wear my most classic outfit for the location. And at this moment, this stunning red topper is one of my favorite pieces to go with a classic outfit. Unfortunately, it’s from a few months ago, but I’ve found a few similar pieces: here, here, and here.

There are a few tips and tricks I have when it comes to creating the perfect classic outfit:

Stick to your basics.

There’s nothing better than pieces that you can wear over and over and over again. To me, those types of pieces are so essential to your wardrobe. For example, I’ve owned this button down (yes, I know it’s a boys’ shirt, I get the biggest size offered) for almost 6 years, and even have multiple ones to rotate through. Although I don’t wear them super frequently (or as much as I did in college), I do love knowing that I have them in my closet. I also consider my skinny jeans part of my classic outfit essentials. Why? When I’m in doubt with what pants to wear, most of the time, my skinny jeans come to the rescue. If you’re looking for a distressed skinny pair, these are my absolute FAVORITES. I also just picked up these jeggings, so I’ll let you know how they work!

Don’t overthink it.

Since you’re going to be using your basic pieces to create a classic outfit, you might think your outfit is “basic”. If you go out of the house with a white button down, some skinny jeans, and loafers, I think you’re good to go. I meant it when I said these loafers were the perfect addition to my collection in yesterday’s post. Here I’m pairing it with a more classic outfit as opposed to those bright and trendy pieces from my previous outfit. I definitely want to get my point across about how versatile they are!

And if you do overthink it, add something to make it pop.

Okay, fine. We all do it. We put on a classic outfit and think it’s not enough. If that’s the case, I’d add an item that pops. Just like this outfit. When my coat was off, I was wearing a cashmere turtleneck and skinny jeans…which is actually a pretty normal look for me. Obviously when I put this coat on, it really made the look pop. Whether you add a fun handbag or colorful shoes to your classic outfit, just know that the basic pieces are so important!

I have many a questions. 1. A classic for Big Ben BUT not the Queen..? I can’t. Also, how did you hop up there? I would have fallen right over. Oh and you look nice too I guess.

    Yours truly and your favorite,
