Elle’s Edit: How To Become A Better You

I’m a firm believer that everyone can make a couple of changes, tweeks, or adjustments to their life to become an even better version of themselve. I’m not saying you need to completely change who you are but there are always parts in our life that we know we can improve.

How To Become A Better You by popular New York blogger The Champagne Edit

Become a Better You – Go outside.

It is as easy as that! It may be hard in the winter months because of how cold it is but as the days start getting a little longer it becomes easier and easier. When the weather gets warmer, I go for a long walk at least once during the week and then definitely once in the weekend. It is a perfect way to destress from a long week and allows me to just focus on myself and my music. I love walking and luckily in NYC I do a ton of it and by living by the water it makes it that much easier and more enjoyable than the crowded sidewalks.

Become a Better You – Get a journal.

One of my friends purchased this journal  where you write anywhere from a sentence to a paragraph about your day, every day, and I think it is such a fun thing to do before going to bed. You can reflect on the day, whether good or bad, and document it. Another journal that I am loving is the One Good Dead a Day journal.

Become a Better You – Volunteer.

There are so many ways to volunteer out there even if you live in a tiny town. One organization that I am really passionate about is Big Brothers Big Sisters. I was matched with my little sister 2 years ago and even though I don’t see her every week like I used to (I was part of a workplace mentoring at my old job where she would come to my office, now that I switched jobs I have to see her on my own time) she still plays a huge part in my life. This program brings so much joy to my life and I’ve become a better person from it!

Become a Better You – Clean your closet / pantry.

I know, this sounds crazy but you will be so refreshed when it is completed. I need to do it myself! I swear I have clothes in my closet still from freshman year in college and I can’t believe that they have moved from Connecticut to Minneapolis and then to NYC. I need to get much better about when I buy one piece of clothing I need to donate two pieces. My closets would be so much less cramped and give me a perfect excuse to go shopping.

Become a Better You – Book a trip.

I’m aware that this is not the slightest bit easy but when I book a trip it gives me something to look forward to. In college, I would always (except senior year) be counting down the weeks until break and when you hit the real world, there are no such thing as break. It sucks, I know, but that is why you need to find things to motivate you or give you something to look forward to.

Become a Better You – Splurge on something you have had your eye on.

Dana is well to aware of this, and she knows it…because I tell her all the time. But in all honesty you need to reward yourself every now and then. It never hearts to reward yourself every now and then on a piece that you have been having your eye on for quite some time. You all kill it in your career and everyday life and need to treat yo self!

Become a Better You – Facetime your parents.

As you grow older so do your parents. You are literally their entire world and when you spend 30 mins or even 10 mins of your busy weekend to give them a call you make their day. My parents always thank me for calling them and it honestly breaks my heart. Why are they thanking me for a simple phone call? I owe them everything!

Become a Better You – Get a good book to read.

This is something that I struggle with because I can’t find the time to read. I have gotten in routines of reading before bed but my eyes are so tired from staring at the computer screen all day at work and the last thing I want to do is read. However, when I have a good book I always find myself reading whenever I can..even on the subway! I recently joined the NYC Public Library (I’m so Carrie Bradshaw right now) and I’ve already checked out 3 books! Doesn’t sound like much but for me it’s a lot!

Become a Better You – Learn to say no.

You don’t have to do everything and it is ok to say no. People get it. Trust me. I am such a homebody and all of my friends know that. However I am trying really hard to be more social especially on the weekends and hang out with friends that I don’t see as often But it’s hard! I am so tired from a long work week and the last thing that I want to do is go to a bar and get like 4 hours of sleep but I still do it. However there are times during the year where I am always running around like a crazy woman with different obligations and I have to remind myself that I can say no and I don’t need to do everything.

Become a Better You – Say thanks and count your blessings.

As easy as that! Not everyone is as lucky as you. I’ve recently started listening to a 5-7 min podcast (One Verse Devotional) every night before bed and it is been so therapeutic. Even though this podcast is religious, there are so many out there that make you feel so good about your life and how grateful you should be that you are blessed with another day.

What are some things that you have been doing recently that make you feel good?

I love these Elle! I also wholeheartedly agree with going outside & calling your parents! A walk through the park does wonders for resetting your mind and tbh I call my parents almost everyday and it makes my day so much better. I definitely need to find a good book to read too!

Another amazing post by Elle! I love all of these tips. I definitely need to splurge on myself more often. I hardly ever do and if I do, I feel guilty. Which I need to stop. Also, I love that journal idea of writing a sentence or paragraph every day. Will probably be ordering that journal today!

Great suggestions! I like the part of cleaning the closet or even the whole house. It feels like cleaning from within and once everything is in place and all the junkies are out, it feels like a new me again.
