You know, I’ll be honest. A few years ago when you wanted to shop for cool pieces, Banana Republic was NOT one of them. And then Marissa Webb (a.k.a Queen) took over as Creative Director.
I recently went to the new Banana Republic flagship on 5th Avenue, and it’s everything. I could actually imagine Marissa Webb wearing each and every piece…which I loved! As the former head designer at J.Crew, I knew her style was tomboy and cool. This is exactly what Banana Republic needed.
From asymmetrical dresses to leather front tops and distressed boyfriend jeans, Banana Republic covers every category of cool. Since it would be pretty hard to afford everything from Marissa’s self-named collection, her designs at Banana Republic seem pretty damn good to me. I love the idea that neutrals play such a huge part in the collection, and most pieces can be worn year round.
The one thing to notice: The price range has definitely moved up a tier. BUT, that’s what you’re going to see when the quality gets better – just tell yourself it’s an investment;)
