Sure, they’re not sleek or chic. But I personally think Birks are awesome…that wasn’t always the case though.
A few years ago, I remember my sister bought a pair of Birkenstocks, and I laughed at her. I thought they were pretty ugly. But with most things my sister would bring home, I tried them on and ended up loving them. I borrowed them from her a few times. Then, I didn’t care for them. They didn’t really go with my style (I was torn between cutesy and J.Crew). So I forgot about them.
When I started working for Free People, I remember my boss had this pair that she started wearing in the Spring. I ended up purchasing them because they paired well with my newly defined, boho-yet-casual style. And the rest is history…as per usual with my fashion sense. But no, that’s really where my love for Birkenstocks began. I seriously wear this pair into the ground. They’re perfect for running errands, or perfecting your cool, casual looks. I think they’re really versatile too. I’ve worn them to the beach. I paired them with a dress. And obviously, I paired them with this insanely comfortable bike short set from Amazon.
This summer, I purchased not one, not two, but THREE pairs of these plastic/rubber Birks. I’ve been wanting a pair of black Birks for a bit now, and I just never knew which kind to get (leather, suede, etc.). I saw someone on Instagram talk about the plastic ones, and I bought them immediately. At just $45, I think they’re a steal because 1. They’re durable 2. They’re easy to clean and 3. They’ve been going with EVERYTHING in my wardrobe.
I honestly cannot get over how comfortable they are. And you don’t need to break them in. I HATE HAVING TO BREAK IN SHOES. Seriously, if you want to torture me, just lock me in a room and make me break in shoes (no, don’t ever do that). So yeah, I was pleasantly surprised that I didn’t have to break these in.
Do you love Birks too? Or are you hesitant to buy them?
